Washing Hands the Right Way
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10:41AM For the past couple of weeks we have been working with Scrubs Medical Mission to prepare for a short term mission trip that will begin Friday of this week. We have prayerfully discussed a plan of attack, and we are all VERY excited about the opportunities for this trip. The goal is all about education. Scrubs vision and our vision are consistently equal; we are all about taking generational misconceptions and flipping them on their head. Tim and Holly Garland have a passion for Jesus, and they have a passion for people to live healthy, strong lives.
Originally we were planning a trip to Tarapoto, a city in the northern jungle of Peru. As we prayed and prepared we began to realize that God started changing things a little. Suddenly we found ourselves going a completely different direction. We went from the jungle that holds crazy bugs, crazy animals, and lots of heat to the concrete jungle that we currently call home.
Each day we will be reaching out to different impoverished areas that we are currently set up in. For the past few years Pastor Pepe, Joisy, and the Church have been working in places like Chincha Alta and Villa Salvador; since October we have started to reach out to Villa Maria. Each place can by summed up with one word, "impoverished." They all have different specific needs, but when it comes to medical care they ALL need education.
Tim and Holly have created a program specifically catered to the people we are reaching out to. It will teach them ways to take care of themselves, even on a limited income. For example: Did you know that Apple Cider Vinegar can help get rid of parasites in the body? I didn't. It is simple facts like this that can help jump start the feeling of value that is so needed in these areas. When you throw service and Jesus in the mix... wow... needless to say; WE CAN NOT WAIT!!!!
This will be our first time partnering together with a medical team, and we can be honest and say that we are anxious to get started. We have been blessed to know Tim and Holly for almost two years, and we know that they have lots of Grace and patience. This will be very important because we are still wondering what EXACTLY God has in store for the coming week. We never know who will show up, and how many it will be. We have specifically set aside time to allow God to guide us as we go to each place. We may start teaching and then go door to door. The "details" are always the fun part in Latin America.
During their time down here we will also be planning for a return trip in July, which we strongly believe God is leading to the Jungle. That is why this trip is so important. How big will it be to get a taste of Peru before they serve the country and the people? We have always held the belief that when people come down here they will immediately feel the need to serve. We have seen grown men cry over the needs and the beauty of this place. (I was one of them).
Please pray for the trip and for the people we will be reaching out to. Please pray for the lost souls; that they might hear the name of Jesus and respond. Please pray for everything to be smooth and the translations to be perfect. Please intercede for all of us to receive safety and protection. Finally, please pray for Tim and Holly. They will be bringing their three amazing kids, and I know these sort of things can impact them for the rest of their lives. They all have such beautiful hearts, and we can not wait to share pictures and videos of Christ continually conquering through his body of believer's.

I will be keeping all of you and the Scrubbs Medical Mission Team in my prayers as you go out this Friday to teach and educate others there in Peru and share with them God's love! Medical missions is WONDERFUL! An AWESOME WAY to reach sooooo many people! That was how I was actually called to the mission field was on a medical missions trip to Ecuador in 2005. I fought it for so long, one excuse after another as to why I couldn't do it. But God kept on dealing with me, never giving up on me. I've since done several medical mission trips to Ecuador, and will continue doing them. But, God had other plans for my life also in Missions, and that was to come to Peru and spread His Word and Love as I have obeyed. He has tested my faith greatly with the August 2007 earthquake in Peru and becoming terribly ill with a parasite in March 2009 in Peru. It has made my walk with God so much stronger...I put all my faith and trust in Him completely! Please also be in prayer for my daughter and me as we will be returning to Peru for a month, June 12- July 10. We will be sharing God's love through our Spanish Bible ministry, Jumprope Ministry, glasses and vitamens, clothing and shoes and just loving on the people and sharing God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit with them in Tarapoto and surrounding areas!
